This movie is based on the handcuff rapist, 34 year old, Robert Biddings in Ohio. In June 1987, Jamie Price, 21, was waiting at the corner bus stop when she was abducted and raped by Biddings. Frustrated by the police’s inability to nab the rapist, Jamie’s parents, Rita and Charles Baldridge took matters into their own hands by stalking the bus stop where the rape occurred for about a year in the hopes that they would find and nab the rapist themselves. On August 8, 1988, that is exactly what they did. While her husband, armed with a gun, stood watch, Rita Baldridge, who was waiting at the corner, was attacked from behind and dragged to a local park where Biddings through her down to the ground and told her that he would kill her. Charles Baldridge, who had been waiting in a near by car, followed and approached the rapist yelling ‘Freeze! Police!’ Biddings then escaped, but not without Charles making a mental note of his tag number, which they gave to the police along with a description immediately after. Biddings was tracked down to an apartment where police took him into custody. Biddings was charged with one count of rape and 2 counts of kidnapping, and he was sentenced to life in prison.

In and out of prison since age 12, his rapes go all the way back to 1972 where he kidnapped a woman from a parking lot and took her to a secluded location along some railroad tracks where he raped her. He was only 19 at the time. In 1984, Robert Biddings was released on parole and worked menial jobs to make ends meet. The rapes started almost immediately after, and at the time of his arrest he was the main suspect in at least 60 rapes. He ended up admitting to the rapes, though he stated later that he did not see how “he could have done all of that” since he was working two jobs at the time as a dishwasher and maintenance guy.

Update

In 1996 Biddings said that most of the rapes were committed while he was under the influence of ‘acid’. He stated that he was very remorseful for what he had done and all of the people he had hurt throughout his lifetime. He is no longer one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, but he tries to focus on his educational pursuits and keep a low profile while in custody. In the end, he issues a warning to women not to walk alone ‘out on the streets’. He tells them to look around constantly and ‘don’t be daydreaming’. ()
